Outer Space

Last weekend my parents installed a new toilet, and, like the excellent grandparents they are, gave the boys the toilet box. So the box is now a spaceship, with a "hatch" that seals and windows and a dial on the outside that you can set for several destinations.

You can turn the dial to the sun, the moon, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto, Africa, Ireland, and Jim's. (Jim is our next-door neighbor. He's nearing retirement age, and he rides a Fat Boy. They snuck over to Jim's one day when his wife wasn't home, and he didn't quite know what to do with them so he started feeding them candy and crackers.)

They spent most of the day in their ship yesterday, and J got right in again after breakfast this morning. So I called from the kitchen, "J, please go get dressed and make your bed."

"Just a minute, I have to fly back to Earth."

LOL - that is so cute! We used to have more fun with boxes growing up!

Boxes are more fun than any toy we have ever purchased. The last remark is very cute, reminds me of the grandpa in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, always off on some adventure in his little outhouse-like building. Funny about the neighbor-didn't he ever have kids of his own? Guess he knows kids hardly ever turn down candy OR crackers (at least mine:) )

HAHAHA! Love it! Esp. that last comment... Our box--aka--the coffee table, is a pirate ship. My girls enjoy plundering the house and sailing island to island in it.

I love how wrapped up kids can get in imaginary play. I miss that!

There is a really cute kids book we just heard at story time called something like "This is not a box!" about a little boy and all the things he turned a box into. Glad J came back to Earth to get dressed : )

That was thoughtful of Grandpa and Grandma! Glad to see the imaginations going strong. Did you re-arrange your living room? I like the basket of beans on your wall.

FYI, turn it upside down and it will turn into a transmographier (Calvin and Hobbes fans will get it).
