Weekend With Redheads

Message from Red Freckle: "I am coming to Seattle in July to stay with Beth. Do you want to join me?"

Message from Beth:  "Red Freckle is coming in July, do you want to come?"

It's so nice to know that after four decades on this planet, I've managed not to annoy absolutely everyone, and that some people still want me around.  "Go!  Have fun!" said the Spouse, so I went to meet my red-headed girlfriends.

DOING SEATTLE THINGS

Red Freckle is a very organized person, and she doesn't make it to Seattle that often. So, she came with a list of Seattle things to do.  Here are a few highlights.

Pike Place, and some things you can buy there...

"We have to look at the gum wall," said Red Freckle.  So we went.  (I'm warning you that the following images are disturbing.)

Yes, people, that wall is covered with chewed-up chewing gum, and photo shows only a small portion of the area.  I want to state for the record that this was all Red Freckle's idea.  She did not, however, force me to photograph the wall, or to stick my phone up close for a detail shot:

EATING SEATTLE FOOD

Red Freckle planned a surgical strike on the Seattle restaurant scene, since our time was limited.  On Pike Place is Beecher's Handmade cheese, where you can order a tub of truly amazing "macaroni" (penne) and cheese or a grilled cheese sandwich, sit on a milk jug and watch people make cheese through a big window.  Well, pffft, you can also buy cheese.

Miraculously, we were hungry for dinner several hours later.  So we went to Serious Pie.

That sign, dear reader, contains a sentence fragment.  I suppose they're making a point, maybe that their pizza is serious, period, or something like that.  I forgave all when I ate the pie.  We ordered four smallish pizzas and left no fragments.

HIKING TO SNOW LAKE

The next day was Saturday and we wanted to hike.  We considered Mt. Rainier, but said, "That old thing, nah."  So we drove to Snoqualmie Pass and hiked to Snow Lake.

The day before, I called another Seattle friend.  "Come with us to Snow Lake." I said.

"I can't.  I want to!  I haven't hiked Snow Lake in 25 years!" she said.

"Last time I was there I remember my sister and Natalie B lying on their bellies by the lake, blowing bubbles in the water," said I.

"I have pictures of that!" she replied.

Many thanks to my red-headed girlfriends for a lovely weekend.  (Special Note: the Blogger spellcheck does not like the word Snoqualmie.  Pffft.)

Ugh! Spell check used to drive me INSANE when I lived in Snoqualmie and worked for the Snoqualmie school district. I feel your pain : ) And the gum wall makes me want to retch--repeatedly. I have never visited it. And I know that if I did, one of my kids would walk away with gum in his/her mouth. Love the hiking pics, by the way.
