The dome stand thingy

Recently, I won a cake stand, with a glass cover.  I think the cover is called a cake dome.  I didn't really win it, in the true sense of the word.

We were at a fund-raising auction with two other couples, and the auction items were desserts.  One of our friends - we'll call him Steve - was bidding up a storm.  He waved his paddle wildly, accumulating a vast and colorful array of cakes, cupcakes, cream pies and trifles, until we began worrying about his sanity.

Our other friend, meanwhile, took advantage of our preoccupation with Steve's mental health and wrote our bidding number on the back of his own paddle. He gave it to his little daughter and told her to hold it high.  So we ended up with a few desserts, ourselves.  It was all for a good cause, so no harm done.

You get the dish your dessert came on, so that's how I got the cake stand and dome.  It was nice, but I didn't like the fact that it said "Cake" in gold letters on the side.

Why, I asked myself, is the word "Cake" necessary?  So I got out some masking tape and chalkboard paint and made it disappear.

I have never felt like much of a craft-er, so this may be the height of my DIY powers, right here.  I'm very pleased, because now I can make the dome say whatever I want:

I can provide important data about my desserts:
